Adopting the beautiful glazing techniques of the Old Masters, Susi first creates a monochrome underpainting to establish a foundation for contrast and tonal values. Once dry, the glazing begins, applying a transparent layer of paint over another thoroughly dried layer of paint, one colour and layer at a time. 

This time and labour intensive technique, is rather rare nowadays. However it creates a luminosity and an inner glow to the canvas, bringing it to life with its exquisite “shine through” stained-glass effect, which is still highly revered today.
